STEP 1: DETERMINE ROOF PITCH
If you are not sure of how to determine your roof pitch, call us (or E-Mail) for a free roof pitch chart and directions. STEP 2: CUTTING THE BASE Cut a piece of cardboard the exact size of one side of the cupola's base. Determine the vertical center and draw a line. Measure 3/4" in from the bottom corners and mark. Place the angle finder you created in Step 1 on the cardboard so that the intersection is on the centerline; then raise or lower until the bottom corners meet your marks. Trace the triangle. Round-off the top peak to reflect your roof's actual shape - cut out the triangle. Try the piece on your roof. Adjust if necessary. Once correct, use the pattern to mark the cupola's base and cut out.
Place your cupola (or base) on the roof in the desired location and mark the cupola's "foot" with chalk. Then remove. Allowing for the thickness of the base, attach 4 small pressure treated blocks (vertically) to the roof. Use silicone adhesive caulking between blocks and roof. Put some small cuts on lower most edge of the cupola's base to allow any water to escape. (Do not seal base against roof!) Place base over blocks and attach base to blocks with screws. Putty and paint over screws. NOTE: Use stainless or galvanized steel, adequately sized screws for installation. |
